(Short) Story

After working at a game company, I decided to return to school and entered a design school and a media art program. I later worked at an art university, which brings me to the present. Now I create works using the media of video, music, and programming.

While employed at a company, I primarily discussed production techniques in a single field with colleagues. At school, I considered what one should think about to express oneself, how to position the expressions of others, and what I should do in response.

There was a time when I struggled with the idea of making a living from one single skill. The world is full of excellent works created by groups. Frankly, even making the cheapest ballpoint pen alone is very difficult. So does creating something as an individual have no meaning? While working at a school and engaging with students, I came to see that making something leads to understanding it.

Then what about making things on your own, outside of formal education? Is “reinventing the wheel” really just a vice? When someone ranges across disciplines, comes to know their limits, and keeps creating while giving each piece its own meaning, the results are, in a sense, deeply personal—works shaped by those very limits.

These days, cross-disciplinary collaboration seems to be in vogue. From my experience, the significance of traversing media arises after individuals have thoroughly explored their own limits within the vast array of media, and such people come together.

This homepage born from such reflections.
